Brest is a French football club based in Brest. It was established in 1950 following the fusion of five local patronages, including Armoricaine de Brest, formed in 1903.
Stade Brestois 29 is the full formal name of the club, but it's simply known as Brest. The club plays in Ligue 1 at present.

History of Brest
Established in 1950 following the merging of five local clubs, the club rose through the amateur ranks to the third division by 1958, the second by 1970. In 1979, the club reached the top division of the French football league system for the first time in its history.
Brest played nine top-flight seasons between 1981. At the same time, they won the Ligue 2 title as their only significant piece of silverware. The club had a financial problem in 1991 and was declared bankrupt.
Brest were back in Ligue 2 by 2004 and Ligue 1 in 2010. The club has spent a maximum time in Ligue 2 in the last decade and following relegation in 2013.
However, Brest returned to the top flight, becoming a runner-up in the second-tier in the 2018/19 season. They finished on a 14th-placed in the last season of Ligue 1 and appear set to settle themselves as one of France's top 20 football clubs.
