All clubs in the Premier League and the three divisions of the Football League are automatically eligible for the competition. Every participating club must have a stadium suitable for the competition.

Competition Format of English FA Cup

It is a knock-out format competition, starting in August of the annual calendar and consisting of twelve rounds, a semi-final, and a final, in May. There is no seeding, each round fixture being determined by a random lottery.

Before the 5th round, fixtures finishing in a tie are replayed once only. The first six rounds are qualifying rounds, with the lottery organized on a regional basis. The following six rounds f the contest is the proper rounds where all teams are in one lottery.

In rounds up to with the Fourth Round Proper, fixtures resulting in a draw after the standard time (ninety-minute) go to a replay, played at the away venue of the opponents. If still, the repetition is tied, the winner is decided by extra time (thirty-minute), and if still necessary, a penalty shootout kicked.

Arsenal won the FA Cup most of the 14 times, followed by Manchester United (12). The English FA Cup saw 44 champions in its 141 seasons. Twenty-two teams won the cup only once, and 14 teams reached the final but could not win.
