History of English League Two

The English football authorities felt the need for a lower division competition in 1956 when the current competition known as League One was transformed from Division 3 North / South into Division 3 of the entire English football league system.

With this need in thought, the 4th division was added to the English Football Pyramid for the first time in 1958 and continued for the next 24 years. When the Premier League emerged in 1992 as part of a reorganization of the English Football League system, the current League One became the Football League Third Division. This League Two became the Football League Fourth Division, which lasted until 2004.

Another round of branding in the 2004–05 season saw the Premier League and English Football League compete separately. At the end of each season, 72 teams from these three divisions of the EFL are replaced by promotion-relegation systems at the top of the table and the bottom.

Competition Format of English League Two

There are 24 clubs in English League Two. Each contestant club plays each of the other contestant clubs two-time (once at the home stadium and once away stadium). According to the rules, each winning team gets 1 point for each winning match, where no losing points are added to the losing team's book, but if the match is drawn, both sides get one point.
