History of Swansea City

The club was established in 1912 as Swansea Town and entered the Southern League, winning the Welsh Cup in its first season. Swansea won the Third Division South title in 1924–25, four seasons after joining the Football League.

The club again won the Third Division South title in 1948–49, demoted to the lower level two years previously. They went down to the Fourth Division after relegations in 1965 and 1967. In 1969, the club finally changed its name to the current version, Swansea City.

The team won three promotions in four seasons to reach the First Division in 1981. They reached close to winning the league title during the following season, but they finished sixth, still a club record. From here, the club suffered relegation problems the season after, returning to the Fourth Division in 1986 and then slightly avoiding relegation to the Conference in 2003.

Swansea City achieved the promotion to compete in the Premier League in 2011. They reached the 2012–13 Football League Cup and won the trophy, which was their first big trophy. The club again fell into the Championship from the Premier League after finishing the 2017–18 season.
