5 March 1916 is marked as the foundation date of the football club Mallorca. Alfonso XIII Foot-Ball Club is the very first name of the club. Later in 1931, they registered and changed the name to Club Deportivo Mallorca. And in 1949-50, the club recovered their "Real" title, becoming Real Club Deportivo Mallorca.Mallorca also has some nicknames. The club returned into the First division in 1984-85, but they could not do something better, despite some best players in their team.RCD Mallorca achieved their highest league finish by securing the sixth position but unfortunately unable to participate in the UEFA Cup's European football.In 1990–91, Mallorca reached the Copa del Rey final for the first time, losing by one goal to Atlético Madrid. But the club would not be a regular until they spent 16 seasons among the elite from 1997 to 2013.
