Montpellier Hérault Don Club was founded in 1919 under the former title "Stade Olympique Montpelliérain" by the organization Affiliation Générale Sportive Montpelliéraine, which made of a modest bunch of well off and wealthy and ambitious citizens of Montpellier.
In August 1917, the club merged with local club La Vie au Grand Air du Languedoc (VGAL) and started playing football professionally.
