History of Queens Park Rangers

Queens Park Rangers was officially founded in 1882 as St. Jude's. The club merged with Christ Church Rangers and changed its name from St. Jude's to Queens Park Rangers in 1886.

The club joined the expanding Football League in 1920. But the club spent most of the time in the lower division of the English football league. They were not particularly successful during the early decades of its inception.

In 1959, Alec Stock took charge of QPR, and finally, the club started to enjoy a new successful era under Stock's management. QPR claimed their biggest 9-2 victory over Tranmere Rovers in the following season.

In 1976, Queens Park Rangers really performed well and won a double by finishing first in the Third Division and beating West Bromwich Albion in the League Cup final.

In 1981, the club installed an artificial turf as the first club in Europe. QPR got an invitation to the newly formed Premier League in the 1991/92 season and recorded one of their most memorable victories by winning 4-1 against Manchester United on New Year's Day.
