History of Reading

Created in 1871, the club is one of the oldest clubs in England but did not enter the Football League until 1920, and first played in the top tier of the English football league system for the 2006–07 season. The club played in the 2012–13 Premier League season, having earned a promotion in the 2011–12 season after winning the EFL Championship, but was relegated after just one season back in the top tier.

The club played at the stadium Elm Park for 102 years, from 1896 to 1998. They moved to the new Madejski Stadium in 1998, named after the club's former chairman Sir John Madejski. Reading holds the record for the number of successive league victories at the beginning of a season, with 13 wins at the 1985–86 third division competition.

And also the record for the number of points earned in the professional league season with 106 points in the 2005–06 season of the Football League Championship campaign. Then they finished 8th in the 2006–07 season of the Premier League, their first-ever season as a top-flight team.

During the 2014–15 FA Cup competition, the club reached the semi-finals and the quarter-finals the season after. They also reached the Championship playoff final in the 2016–17 EFL Championship season.
