SC Freiburg is one of the oldest sports clubs in Germany. However, the club's current official name is Sport-Club Freiburg e.V., commonly known as SC Freiburg or simply Freiburg.

History of SC Freiburg

SC Freiburg's creation can be found out back to two clubs formed in 1904. Freiburger Fußballverein is one of these two clubs created by a group of high school students in 1904.

The other club is from another part of the city of Freiburg, which was the club of Schwalbe founded in the same year. Both clubs would go through some name changes story before they merged in 1912 to reveal Sport-Club Freiburg.

After the demolition of the First World War, SC Freiburg entered into a short-term arrangement with Freiburger FC to get an entire side called KSG Freiburg. The following year, SC Freiburg linked themselves with FT 1844 Freiburg as its football portion until 1928.

But they left to enter into a stadium-sharing positioning with PSV (Polizeisportvereins) Freiburg 1924 that continued until 1930. SC Freiburg then joined again with FT 1844 Freiburg in 1938. The club played on the highest division from 1928.

The club had many stories of merging, name changing, and turmoil throughout the Second World War. In 1952 the club was legally reformed as Sport-Club Freiburg. And finally, on 27 June 1952, the club was officially reformed; the football portion of the club formed a separate entity.

Club Badge and Colors of SC Freiburg

SC Freiburg has used the same badge since 1958. The bottom right portion of the badge is simply a stylized version of S, C, & F letters for Sport-Club Freiburg. The top left part of the badge is supposed to be a griffin's head.

A griffin is a historic mythical creature with its top half as an eagle and half as a lion. The griffin appeared on the right side of Baden-Württemberg's coat of arms. Baden-Württemberg is a state of Germany where Freiburg is situated.

On 25 May 1993, SC Freiburg beat Hansa Rostock 1-0 in the 44th matchday of season 2. Bundesliga. The result secured automatic promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history. The entire season was awe-inspiring and a historic season for the club.

In the 2nd match of the 1994-1995 Bundesliga seasons on 23 August 1994, Freiburg beat German top club Bayern Munich 5-1. It was one of the most magnificent victories in the club's history and worthy of calling out here. SC Freiburg finished in 3rd place in the Bundesliga that season and it's the highest ever league finish.
