Competition Format of UEFA Champions League

The UEFA Champions League starts with a double round-robin group stage of 32 clubs. The 32 participants are divided into eight groups of four. Each club plays six group stage games, meeting the other three clubs in its group home and away in a round-robin system. The winning club and the runners-up from each group then moved to the next round. The third-placed team can play the UEFA Europa League.

For the next level – the top 16 – the winning team from one group fights against the runners-up from another group. The same association teams may not result in a draw against each other.
