Welsh Premier League on tv and stream

The Welsh Premier League is an annual national football league of Wales. The professional and semi-professional men's football team participates in this competition. The Welsh Premier League is the first-tier of the Welsh football league system.

Before 2002, the league was usually known as the League of Wales (LoW) but changed its name officially as part of a sponsorship deal to the Welsh Premier League. The league became the Cymru Premier for the sponsorship reason after rebranding in the 2019–20 season.

History of Welsh Premier League

The league was established in October 1991 by Alun Evans, Secretary-General of the Football Association of Wales (FAW). The FAW and the other three home nations' football associations (The Football Association, Scottish Football Association, and Irish Football Association) had a permanent seat on the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

The new league was started for the 1992–93 season and officially took place on 15 August 1992. The league had not previously organized a national league without the Welsh Cup at the time, despite the FAW being a member of FIFA and UEFA.

However, on 13 April 2008, the 18 Welsh Premier League clubs met and voted to support a reforming proposal put forward by Welsh Premier League secretary John Deakin. The proposal was about to reform the single Welsh Premier League with a First Division and Second Division with ten clubs in each Division for the 2010–11 season.

A further proposal was granted that the Football Association of Wales should take total control of the living Company, "Football League of Wales Limited," and the Welsh Premier League should be solved.

These proposals were sent to the Football Association of Wales for their special consideration. The clubs voted to accept a substitute proposal in June 2019 to reduce the Welsh Premier League from 18 teams to 12 for the 2010–11 season.

Competition format of Welsh Premier League

The competition season is split into two tracks and concludes with an end-of-season playoff to determine Wales' fourth European team for the following year.

Track 1 runs from August through to mid-January. Each club meets the other sides in the league twice, once at home ground and once away, making twenty-two games.

After Track 1, the league splits into two paths, with the top six teams forming the Championship Conference and the bottom six teams starting the playoff conference. All points earned by teams in Track 1 are brought forward into Track 2.

Track 2 then runs from the start of February to the end of April. Each contestant plays the other five in their conference twice more with the home-away system to bring up thirty-two games competed.

After thirty-two games, the side finishing top of the Championship Conference is the Welsh Premier League Champion and will directly qualify for the UEFA Champions League competition.
