History of Arizona Cardinals

The team was founded in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club, a non-professional football team in Chicago, and joined the NFL as an authorized member on 17 September 1920. The Cardinals are one of the oldest professional football teams in the United States, continuously running professional football in major competitions.

The franchise is also one of two NFL charter member teams still in operation since the league's creation and the Chicago Bears. The football team moved to St. Louis in 1960 and played there until 1987.

In the 124 years since its inception, the franchise has changed its name several times. In 1920-21, the team's name was Racine Cardinals, which was later changed to Chicago Cardinals. One season in the middle of 1943, their name was Card-Pitt, but from 1945 to 1959, they played again under the Chicago Cardinals.

From 1960 to 1986, they played as St. Louis Cardinals, and from 1989 to 1999, they played as Phoenix Cardinals. But finally, in 1994, they retained their current name Arizona Cardinals, which is still going on.
