History of Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers were founded in Los Angeles in 1959. The Chargers played their debut season in 1960 as an official member team of the American Football League (AFL). They finished their first season in Los Angeles.

In 1961, the franchise moved to San Diego and changed its name to the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers joined the NFL due to the AFL–NFL merger in 1970.
