History of New York Jets

The American football team was founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York, a primary member of the American Football League (AFL). Later, the franchise joined the National Football League (NFL) in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970.

The team started to play in 1960 at the Polo Grounds (upper Manhattan). Under the new ownership, the current name was taken in 1963. And the franchise immediately made a movement to Shea Stadium in 1964. After 20 years, they again moved in 1984 to the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

The Jets were able to compete in the playoffs for the first time in 1968 and competed in Super Bowl III, where they won against the Baltimore Colts, becoming the first AFL team to make a victory against an NFL team in an AFL–NFL World Championship Game.

Since 1968, the Jets have played in the playoffs 13 times and four times in the AFC Championship Game. The team most recently lost the payoff against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010.

However, the Jets have never come back to the Super Bowl, making them one of two NFL teams to win their only Super Bowl appearance and the New Orleans Saints. And they were making them one of four teams, along with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans, never to win an AFC championship.

The Jets drought is the extended among current NFL franchises, apart from Detroit Lions and the Browns, who have never been able to teach the Super Bowl (although both won NFL championships before 1966).
