History of Strasbourg
Strasbourg's origins are traced back to the Strasbourg district of Neudorf in 1906. The club was known as FC Neudorf and became RC Strasbourg Neudorf and then Racing Club de Strasbourg after 1919.
The club joined the national second division in 1933, and after one year, they gained promotion to the fledgling top division. They finished second and then third in their first two top-tier campaigns and have remained in the elite for most of their successive history, despite often turbulent times.

Coupe de France final but lost against Lille. The club fell on relegation in 1947. From 1947 to 1986, Strasbourg suffered several relegations but on each occasion returned to the top flight at the first attempt.

In the 1978–79 season of French Division 1, Strasbourg won their first Ligue 1 titles with 56 points. On 8 August 1995, the club played its first final of UEFA Intertoto Cup among its European competitions.
The club claimed a 6-1 victory against Tirol Innsbruck in the second leg after ending a 1-1 draw in the first leg and winning the
UEFA Intertoto Cup titles.
