The franchise joined the NFL with the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. The Raiders moved to Los Angeles from Oakland to play from the 1982 season through the 1994 season before coming back to Oakland at the start of the 1995 season.

The franchise reached its first post-season in the 1967 season and won its first and only AFL Championship this year. As a result, the Raiders advanced to their first playoff appearance, Super Bowl II, and lost against the Green Bay Packers.
